ABOUT: Vardi studied under Primo Conti, an artist of the Futurist avant-garde and a renowned portraitist. This valuable instruction opened the door to the “magical realism” of “metaphysical” painting and various avant-garde movements. This painting was most likely created during his stay in Italy between 1950 and 1952. A recurring motif in Vardi’s work is the depiction of New York buildings in the background of his compositions.
