Guillaume Lavigne

Guillaume LAVIGNE (born 1977) is a French painter and engraver whose work explores the intimate relationship between objects and their representation. A graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2004, he studied under Michel Gemignani, focusing on disciplines such as drawing, morphology, fresco, modeling, and lithography. His artistic practice is distinguished by meticulous attention to everyday items, particularly clothing, through which he explores themes of identity and memory.

Lavigne’s career has been recognized with several awards and distinctions, including the Albert Maignan Prize from the Taylor Foundation, the Marin Prize, the Grand Painting Prize of Saint-Grégoire, and the City of La Celle Saint-Cloud Prize. From 2005 to 2014, he was a member of the Executive Committee of the Salon de Mai. In 2019, he participated in an artist residency at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai. A two-time recipient of a grant from the Académie des Beaux-Arts, he was also a resident at the Château de Lourmarin in 2005 and 2006.

Lavigne’s impact on contemporary art is defined by his commitment to both painting and engraving, two mediums through which he continually explores the interplay between the tangible and intangible. His portraits of clothing transcend mere representation, inviting viewers to contemplate the narratives embedded within fabric and form. By focusing on such intimate subjects, Lavigne’s work resonates with themes of human experience, making a significant contribution to modern artistic discourse.
